The property underwent modification in the 1960s by famous architect Andre Svetchine, who established his reputation for creating classic masterpieces along the Riviera for Christian Dior and Marc Chagall amongst others. Now owned by British Falklands war hero Robert Lawrence MC, whose experiences inspired the television play Tumbledown, this pretty chateau is both luxurious and quirky. It sleeps up to 14 guests and has a circular heated pool with sweeping views over its extensive terraced gardens. Prices range from GBP4,372 (Euros4,985) to GBP7,012 (Euros 7,995) for a week, sleeping 14.
Villa Mont Baron – Nice
Also new to the rental market and exclusive to SHA Villas is the elegant Villa Mont Baron in Nice. Perched on a hillside overlooking Nice port and old town, this stylishly renovated period villa sleeps 10 and features a Roche Bobois furnished open-plan living room and two-level swimming pool. Prices range from GBP8,770 (Euros 10,000) to GBP12,892 (Euros 14,700) per week, sleeping 10.
Villa Lumiere – Cap Ferrat
Villa Lumiere is a contemporary retreat with views across the Baie de Fournis towards Monaco and Italy and walking distance from St Jean Village, Cap Ferrat. Maison des Bremaudieres – Ile de Re
In the Ile de Re, SHA Villas features a modern beach house behind the dunes of Bois-Plage, two minutes walk from one of the best stretches of south-facing beach on the island. Designed by a well known Ile de Re architect, Maison des Bremaudieres is furnished with a mix of contemporary Italian and mid-century Scandinavian pieces with a large pool and outdoor suspended fireplace. Prices range from GBP7,500 to GBP12,500 per week, sleeping 10.
The Gatehouse – Dordogne
Sleeping four guests, The Gatehouse is a romantic luxury retreat situated in the private grounds of a 15th century chateau in the Dordogne with two private gardens. This chic cottage overlooks an ornamental lake and is furnished with Manuel Canovas wallpapers, Colefax and Fowler fabrics and antique furniture, while retaining a natural and rustic feel. Prices start from GBP1,400 for a couple per week.
Le Vieux Mas – Languedoc and Roussillion
Dating back in parts to the 11th century, restored farmhouse Le Vieux Mas lies below the hilltop village of Fanjeaux in the Pyrenean foothills, an hour from Toulouse airport. The villa is ideal for large family gatherings, sleeping 18 people, with facilities including a pool, tennis court, mountain bikes, archery and a play area to keep children entertained. In high season, guests can help themselves to vegetables from the kitchen garden and eggs from the resident chickens. A week costs GBP12,062 (Euros 13,750), sleeping 18.
